So I have been traveling like crazy trying to make it to see Dan and Hannah in Nicaragua. I am finally here and can take a bit more time through the rest of Central America. I have traveled through El Salvador, Honduras, and now in Nicaragua. El Salvador was amazing. I was sad to leave Guatemala too, it was very beautiful and I am glad I was able to explore and see the whole country. We left San Pedro but not before cliff jumping and and doing a little motorcycle repair, but even though San Pedro was fun, it had to come to an end and allow for more adventure.
Maiko, Mark and I spent Maiko’s birth day in El Salvador but not without an adventure first. So first we left Guatemala late we were supposed to be in the road at 8 but the night before turned out to be kind of a drinking fest so needless to say we were hurting a little. Once we finally made it out of bed we ate breakfast and headed to the internet to see if they could get a hold of their contact in San Salvador, no luck, screw it we are going to El Salvador anyway. The only way out of the town of San Pedro is by riding up a steep narrow cobbled road way, the side of a volcano. Maiko first, me second, Mark last. Maiko was the first man down, I was lucky to squeeze by him and make it up and around the corner blocking everyone trying to come down the hill. Mark, down with the bike on top of him, Maiko rushes over and I rush down the steep road to help out. We get the bike up and hold it for mark so he can get it started and work his way up the hill, this time he made it. By this time people from the top of the hill were coming down to see what was going on, everyone help Maiko get his bike up and this time he made it as well. A little shaken from the hill, we made our way out of San Pedro the wrong way, eventually we realized and turned around only to be stopped again because of a huge landslide that had slide on the road. Luckily we didn’t have to wait to long because they had pretty much cleared a path for cars by the time we pushed to the front of the line. Every thing was going fine for a few hour until we hit some traffic an hour away from the border. Trying to make our way to the front of the traffic Maiko and I motored to the right side of traffic and started making our way until I saw him turn around in a panic. I followed only to see Mark was on the ground both boxes off the bike, both mirrors snapped off, and he was all dusty and shaken up. He had hit a car and broke the tail light and scratched the bumper a little. The situation got out of hand when the lady grabbed marks keys and Maiko and her went at it in Spanish. The cops came and at this point everyone wanted money, The cost said we couldn’t get our registration, and licenses back until we paid them, the lady left after we paid her for something she would never fix on her crappy car, it was just a mess. Until a BMW rep stopped and saved us from having to pay the cops and got our paperwork back for us. Once again we were back on the road, heading for the border. By this time it was getting late and we new we were going to have to cross at night.
Once at the border we tried to make it into El Salvador but got turned back because we didn’t have the right paperwork. On the Guatemala side they said we had to go back to a Mexico, Guatemala border to get the paperwork we needed. We begged and pleaded until the lady finally gave us the paperwork we needed, So after about 2 hours in the dark on the Guatemala side, we made our way to the El Salvador side in the dark. Once there, the only immigration officer on was out to dinner, great another long wait. After 3 hours we finally got everything done and headed into El Salvador, with police pulling everyone over, we just kept passing police check points and getting to the next town as fast as we could. I needed gas badly too so that also led to some panic because every gas station was closed, but we found one, that only took cash, which I didn’t have any. They let me use the ATM inside even though they were closing. I guess I took to long because the guys who told me I could use it packed up and left closing down the gas station and leaving me with no gas. They said there was another one only a mile up the road. They were right, I filled up and Maiko talk to some guys inside who set us up with a place to stay. We followed them into this gated community, with really nice houses on the beach. We were put up by some pretty wealthy guy for two nights. It was paradise, Maiko, Mark and I spent Maiko’s birthday on an amazing beach in El Salvador just the 3 of use in beach side condos. It was a great adventure, we had been riding great roads until we entered Nicaragua, where I currently am. I hope everyone is doing well, and is enjoying the update.
