Trip ending accident….

So after having a great day yesterday, and making it to Guatemala safe and sound I am at a point were I am not sure I can finish the trip. Yesterday Adam and I, another KLR 650 rider rode together from Pelenque, Mexico. I detoured from my original route and glad I did. Anyway, Adam and I had a great ride from Pelenque to the border were we had to put our bikes into a little boat in order to cross the river. It was a process in a half. We had to ride through a foot and a half of mud to get down to the river, pick the bikes up and place them into small little boats, and them it took about 8 men to puch and pull both bikes up the steep muddy and sandy bank on the other side. It was a lot of fun, full of laughs and smiles. Finally in Guatemala scared from all the horror stories we went through the easiest immigration process ever. Just a stamp and $5 and we were in. We rode dirt for about 2 hours through beautiful tropical farm lands. We rode into the dark because of getting lost and when we pulled into the gas station to find a hotel from Lonely Planet my tank bag caught the engine cut off switch and broke it off. While trying to start the bike it fried the CDI Unit which is about $320.
But wait, it gets even better, the following morning after making it to a hotel and while working on it, the weather changed and poured on us.The owners of the hotel went and got motorcycle mechanics and we found the the CDI was the cause so we brought it by towing it with another motorcycle, to their shop. While working on the bike they asked to try Adams CDI unit and in the process fried his too. So now I have to purchase two units. There is so much more to the story with strips bolts more rain, angry mechanics because nobody knows what is being said. But in the end it is all well. I am alive, going to Tikal to check out more ruin and drink until I forget well maybe not that but try and forget about the situation and try to except the fact I will no longer be able to afford to make it to Argentina. Seriously bummed, but seriously happy with how far I have made it, how much I have seen, and how many great people I have met. I am satisfied with my trip if it had to end tomorrow. I guess you can plan on me planning the same trip in the future. My luck just has not been with me. I plan to try and make it as far as I can probably to Panama or Colombia, store the bike or ship it home and start saving for another. Sorry everyone I was hoping to make it all the way but at this point it is just not possible. Thanks for following and keep following until I am done.
